At WE CAN, our work is guided by a deeply intentional approach that places people, dignity, and transformation at the centre of everything we do. We do not believe in working for communities—we believe in working with communities, walking alongside individuals and groups as they discover their own power to lead change.
Central to our way of working is the practice of Training for Transformation (TfT)—a values-based, participatory approach that shapes how we engage, learn, and grow together.
Training for Transformation is more than a methodology—it is a philosophy of empowerment rooted in justice, participation, and human dignity.
It calls us to:
Recognise the inherent worth and potential of every individual
Create spaces where people can reflect critically on their lived realities
Encourage dialogue that leads to awareness, healing, and action
Support communities to question systems that perpetuate inequality
Enable people to imagine and choose alternative pathways for their future
Through this approach, transformation is not imposed—it is discovered, owned, and sustained by the people themselves.
A key component of our work is the Assessment Tool Framework (ATF)—a reflective tool used to deepen both impact and accountability.
The ATF is not simply a measurement tool. It is a living process that:
Encourages continuous reflection within the organisation, board, and staff
Strengthens alignment with our core values and mission
Assesses how our work is experienced in the lives of communities
Guides learning, growth, and adaptation in our programmes
Through this framework, we hold ourselves accountable—not only to outcomes, but to the integrity of how we achieve them.
Our work is grounded in participatory methodologies that ensure every voice matters.
We actively create platforms where individuals and communities:
Engage in dialogue and shared decision-making
Contribute their knowledge, lived experience, and perspectives
Take ownership of processes that affect their lives
Build relationships that strengthen collective action
Participation, for us, is not symbolic—it is essential. It ensures that solutions are relevant, inclusive, and sustainable.
We believe that transformation begins with awareness, but it must lead to action.
Our philosophy supports communities to:
Realise and affirm their strengths and potential
Critically engage with social, economic, and cultural systems
Rebuild identity, confidence, and agency
Act collectively for the common good
This journey—from reflection to action—enables individuals and communities to shift from being passive recipients to active shapers of their own realities.
Our approach is anchored in core values that guide every programme and interaction:
Dignity and Respect – Every person is valued and treated with honour
Participation and Inclusion – Every voice matters and has a place
Self-Reliance and Empowerment – Communities are supported to lead their own development
Justice and Equity – Challenging systems that perpetuate inequality
Compassion and Healing – Recognising the importance of emotional and spiritual restoration
Collaboration and Solidarity – Working together for collective impact
These values are not abstract—they are lived out daily in our relationships, our programmes, and our presence in communities.
At WE CAN, Training for Transformation is not a once-off intervention—it is a continuous, evolving practice.
It shapes how we listen.
How we engage.
How we learn.
And how we grow—together with the communities we serve.
Because true transformation is not about changing circumstances alone—it is about restoring dignity, unlocking potential, and building a future that is defined by those who live it.
